Prayer Force Pretoria
Monthly Prayer Meeting #1
27 Jan 2011

1.    Taking up responsibility for PTA!
God clearly spoke to us in 2010 that believers and intercessors in Pretoria are not embracing their God ordained call to be heaven’s instruments of change.

Things are not changing either because we are playing games or we are not even attempting to fulfill our duties. We complain, we criticize and we even pray self righteously, but we are not willing to embrace some pain and intentionally invest time and effort to seek God for potent heavenly strategies to see His desires fulfilled in this city.

How many times did God send the prophets to the people of Jerusalem – urging them to change their ways – to seek God so He can really bless them?

I believe we have reached this point in Pretoria. It is time for us:
·           To put adequate time aside to intercede regularly for Pretoria
·           To commit to first seeing our own lives reflecting the change we pray for
·           To focus regularly on the spiritual needs and well-being of the city and its people, and
·           To engage in a Spirit led process where we are totally dependent on God.

His presence alone can direct us to know the way which we must go, for we have not passed this way before (Jos 3:1-4). The season of entering the Promised Land necessitates a different walk than the walk we became accustomed to in the desert.

2.    Prayer*: Let us repent and commit
We cannot even attempt to rectify our disobedience and passivity without repenting, acknowledging our negligence and rotten hearts.

Let us repent of our personal culpability and then move on to acknowledge our corporate guilt as believers from a specific race, denomination, congregation and community.

Now, verbalize your commitment to God. Dedicate 2011 to God for the purpose of intentional prayer, investmenting for the kingdom of God to manifest in Pretoria.

3.    Our ‘modus operandi’
We will be greatly mistaken if we take on this task with a man focused religious paradigm. Neither can we be a reactionary group that simply pounces on the negative issues that pervade the media.

Rather, what is needed is a group of people that are desperate to hear from God and then to simply obey and execute what the Spirit directs. This should be a prayer meeting where hearing from God is paramount. Our own visions, opinions and experiences are to be abandoned as they cannot lead to success.

Though we are very aware that the Prayer Force prayer meetings are totally inadequate to fulfill the requirements of such a commitment, we believe it could be a catalyst that encourages and inspires our dedication to stand in die gap for our city, wherever God has positioned us within the body of Christ.

4.    Listen: We need some well seasoned perspective
Our greatest need is to see what God sees. Only from this viewpoint will our prayers be accurately targeted on the real issues that oppose Gods agenda.

Let’s spend some time tonight to allow the Holy Spirit to give us glimpses into this city in which He positioned us.

Ask Him: “Lord, what do you desire to do for Pretoria? How do You view this city and what do You want to tell us that we have been missing or misinterpreting?”

5.    Prayer*: Pray for the activation of the Church
2 Chron 7:14 clearly recounts that the healing and restoration of the land is dependent on one group of people, those who are called by His name – the church.

Let us plead with God to awaken the churches in this city to their God ordained calling and responsibility: to make Him none and to see destruction come to the kingdom of darkness. His promise still is that He will build His Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against His church.

Ask God to heal believers of their lethargy, passivity, neutrality and carnal living. Pray that many would hear the call to thoroughly amend their ways and sacrifice comfort in order to become instruments of authentic change which will prepare the way for God’s presence to become experiential all across Pretoria.

* Let us not just jump into our prayers. First become still. Expect that He will speak to you about what He wants you to pray. Also keep a pen and paper ready so that you can document everything that God reveals to you. This will help us to discern His directives and to insure we accurately apply them.

Prayer Force Pretoria
Monthly Prayer Meeting #2
22 Feb 2011

1.    True Worship
As false worship is one of the strongholds in a teacher community it is essential that we develop pure and true worship in our personal lives. We need to ask God to reveal to us if there are any aspects of religious functioning in our lives that are not pleasing to God.

Let’s start today’s prayer sessions by focusing on God and bringing worship to Him. Let’s be attentive to not just go through the motions but to minister truthfully to our Heavenly Father.

John 4:23,24
23“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Let’s be sensitive to the Holy Spirit to hear what is on Fathers heart. Any direction or words must be shared. His agenda is more important than our own.

2.    Local Government
As intercessors for Pretoria we need to pick up the long term responsibility of praying constantly and effectively for our local governmental structures.

This year is pivotal as we will also see new local elections taking place. Our intercession can lay a foundation for positive changes to take place and for better local governance to be released to our city for the next 4 years. Today we will first of all focus on the new executive mayor in Tshwane. His name is Kgosientso "Sputla" Ramokgopa. He took office in November 2010.

Let’s ask God to speak to us about this man. Once He has shown us what we need to pray we will move into a corporate time of prayer to pray for his leadership and responsibilities.

1 Tim 2:1
1Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

We want to urge intercessors in Pretoria to make themselves available to attend council meetings in the months to come so that at least 2 believers will pray for and during these important decision making occasions. Please inform us whether you will be available on one or several of these dates.

3.    Defilement on the Land
Friday last week (18 Fen 2011) another deadly accident occurred on the N1 highway between Garsfontein and Atterbury road off-ramps, killing 2 people and injuring more. This piece of motorway is notorious for fatal and serious crashes.

This is a clear indication of spiritual defilement on this portion of road. The enemy is only able to steal, destroy and kill (Joh 10:10) if he has attained a strong legal right through sin and wickedness perpetrated on the land.

In a teacher community the spirit of death is often at work (especially through occult practices) while defilement in such a city is also, as a rule, rooted in the land.

It is our responsibility as New Testament priests to seek Gods face in acquiring insight and strategy from the Father on how to bring cleansing to this piece of our turf. Our strategy will first of all have to focus on bringing cleansing of any unrighteousness that may have taken place. Thereafter we have the opportunity to verbally release Biblical blessings over this stretch of highway so that it will become a sanctified gateway to our city where inhabitants and visitors will encounter life and sanctification instead of death and defilement.

Let’s dedicate a few minutes to receiving instructions from God about this issue. Than we need to respond by obeying and applying the guidance we have received to see this portion of the city restored to His Godly purposes.

4.    Information on the present Municipal Council of Tshwane
Herewith (on the next page) we provide you with a list of all the councilors (by name and political affiliation) that have seats in the local municipal government. Let’s use this list in the next few weeks to bring council members before God. Let the Holy Spirit lead you on what you should pray for each individual and political party that are presented within the Council.

Be very careful to not pray from your opinion, fears or preconceived ideas. Our prayers should not be judgmental or manipulative.

Jam 4:2b-3
Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

The Lord blesses you as you participate in standing in the gap for this beautiful city.

Remember: The task ahead of us is never as great as the power behind us!

Prayer: Don’t give God instructions – just report for duty!

The City Council of Tshwane

The Council consists of 152 Councillors, of whom some are Ward Councillors and others Proportional Representative (PR) Councillors. The Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMCs) also form part of the Council.

In terms of the Municipal Structures Act, an executive mayor must appoint a mayoral committee from the elected councillors to assist him or her. An executive mayor may delegate specific responsibilities and powers to MMCs.

The Executive Mayor of Tshwane is supported by a team of ten MMCs, each with a different portfolio focusing on particular departments in the Municipality. Each MMC chairs a portfolio committee made up of a number of councillors. The Mayoral Committee considers reports of the portfolio committees and submits them to the Council for approval.

Prayer Force Pretoria
Monthly Prayer Meeting #3
31 March 2011

 1.    The Sin of False Worship

As a teacher city God has ordained Pretoria/Tshwane to be a place where His manifest presence can be revealed. This calling is clearly revealed in the history of Jerusalem – the great teacher city in the nation of Israel. God’s intention was to consecrate Jerusalem to be the place of His throne, the location of the presence of the Great King. The realization of this ultimate goal could only be attained if the nation of Israel dedicated themselves and the city to the pure worship of the true and living God of their fathers.

God’s tangible and powerful presence in Jerusalem was evident during the kingship of David and especially the early years of King Solomon. As a whole nation joined in the endeavor of building a habitation (temple) for Jehovah and ministering to Him alone through the development of a highly organized priesthood the city prospered as it started fulfilling its redemptive purpose.

Sadly, the nation and the king perverted their ways and started honoring false gods, serving demons and practicing detestable things. Many prophets were sent by God to warn them of the impending judgment that would be visited upon the city and the nation because of false worship that perverted their true call and gave demons entrance to society as a whole.

And so the city that was called to be the habitation of holiness became a habitation of demons; defiled land that did not bring people into relationship with their Creator but in fellowship with demons (1 Cor 10:20,21).

Our prayers should thus endeavor to intercede about such perversion of Gods high call in Pretoria. We cannot sit back and allow this city to position itself in such defilement that Gods only recourse in bringing us back to righteousness becomes the sword of judgment (Is 26:8).

2.    Prayer and Repentance

Let us bring the following 2 manifestations of false worship in Pretoria before God.

·           Strange fire / false worship in the name of the true God.

·           False worship to false gods.

2.1      Strange Fire

False worship within Christian churches or organisations is when we serve God in a way He has not prescribed. In the Old Testament we see that such worship led to death.

Lev 10:1

And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.

Num 3:4

And Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children: and Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the sight of Aaron their father.

Let us identify false worship in the Church of Pretoria. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees because they had a form of godliness but not authentic power (2 Tim 3:5). They practiced dead religion. Let’s identify where such religiosity replaced true worship in our local congregations, denominations and theological training centres.

Pray for forgiveness of these sins and ask God to cleanse our city from such practices. Ask Him to cleanse His people; even as He cleansed the temple when true worship was replaced by self-centred deviant religious practices (Mat 21:12-13).

2.2      False gods

In our city there are numerous examples of false and even extreme occult worship taking place. These defiled altars open the city up for extremely detrimental influences as the enemy obtains an immense legal right to steal, destroy and kill (Joh 10:10) as demons are empowered to bring whole communities into darkness.

Identify some of these places and pray to God to bring a weakening and destruction to the false worship perpetuated in these locations. Make a list of places you know about and commit to focus on these sites in your intercession in the months to come. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you about Gods word, strategy and desire concerning each of these strongholds.

3.    Local Government

We would like to see intercessors attend the monthly council meeting of the Tshwane Metropolitan Council when they meet on the last Thursday of every month. If groups of 2 or 3 Prayer Force members can commit to taking responsibility for specific dates we can start to cover our local government meetings in prayer so that God can bring wisdom and righteousness into these strategic gatherings.

Let’s spend some time in prayer to receive strategies and direction from the Holy Spirit on what we must do when we attend these meetings.
